As happy wanderer this is a rough outline and will probably change as time goes by. This is based on a past trip that I did.

TENTATIVE ITINEARY FOR SICILY

 

GENOVA’S GRAND TOUR OF SICILIA

MAY 14TH TO MAY 24TH

 

 

 

FRIDAY, MAY 14TH, DAY ONE

 

 

ARRIVAL

At Palermo Airport all parties hopefully arrive at the same time.

I will have a 9 passenger M Fiat Ducato Van or similar vehicle arranged.

 

Meet up at Hotel in Palermo. Hotel Paulo suggested. Second choice Ambasciatori where we stayed at last time.

 

LUNCH

My suggestion for group or you are on your own.

 

AFTERNOON

Familiarization tour with Palermo and some of the sights with Bill as guide.

 

SUPPER

 Tour with Bill as a group or you are on your own.

 

EVENING

Continued touring of Palermo with group or on you own. Stay in Palermo.

 

SATUDAY,        MAY 15TH, DAY TWO

 

MORNING

Visit Palermo the capital of Sicily, one of the richest towns in Sicily for history, tradition and art. We will start the visit to “Mercato del Capo-Capo Market”, a large street market that captures some of the spirit of the city’s Saracens past. The most colourful part of this market converges around Piazza Beati Paoli and the stalls wind toward the old gate, Porta Carini that used to be part of the city wall surrounding Palermo.

 

LUNCH

Eat at the market.

 

AFTERNOON

Leave for Vita via Monreale. Visit Monreale with its Cathedral, Norman Palace and Palatin Chapel, Opera House, and the Pretoria Square.

 

SUPPER

 Local meal prepared by Grandmothers of Vita.

 

EVENING

Stay in B&B in Vita chill out. This is a backwater town but the town of my ancestors so I will make it interesting as we visit some of my family’s landmarks.

 

SUNDAY, MAY 16TH, DAY THREE

 

MORNING

 

Visit a local winery and olive pressing. Travel to the nearby ruins of Segesta.

 

LUNCH

Lunch at former Segesta Train station.

 

AFTERNOON

Drive through Salemi, Nuova Gibellina with its over 50 large modern sculptures in the town. Travel either to Hotel Elimo in Erice or Hotel in the Trapani Salt Flats.

 

SUPPER

 To be suggested.

 

EVENING

Touring around Trapani or Erice with group or on you own. Stay at either Erice at Hotel Elimo or Hotel on Trapani Salt Flats.

 

 

 

MONDAY, MAY 17TH, DAY FOUR

 

MORNING

On the road visiting Erice, Trapani, the Salt Flats of Trapani,

 

LUNCH

Either in Erice or Trapani.

 

AFTERNOON

Continue and Marsala visiting a winery where the famous Marsala wine comes from. Travel over to Selunite. Stay at B&B Sicilia Cuore Mio.

 

SUPPER

Either with B&B we are staying at in the garden or in town.

 

EVENING

Stay at B&B or wander into town.

 

 

TUESDAY, MAY 18TH, DAY FIVE

 

MORNING

Tour the 40 acres that make Selunite Archelogical site.

 

LUNCH

To be suggested.

 

AFTERNOON

Visit Valley of Temples in Agrigento.

Hotel to be determined.

 

SUPPER

To be suggested.

 

EVENING

Touring of City of Agrigento with group or on you own. Stay in Agrigento.

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 19TH, DAY SIX

 

MORNING

Drive over to Piazza Armerina. Visit same.

 

LUNCH

Lovely restaurant beside ruins.

 

AFTERNOON

Drive over to Taromina. Hotel to be determined. We Stayed at Andromaco Palace last time but had difficulty with stairs. Would prefer hotel with elevator and parking for van.

 

SUPPER

To be determined.

 

EVENING

Continued touring of Taromina with group or on you own. Stay in Taromina

 

THURSDAY, MAY 20TH, DAY SEVEN

 

MORNING

Wander Taromina on your own.

 

LUNCH

My suggestion for group or you are on your own.

 

AFTERNOON

Wander Taromina on your own.

 

SUPPER

 Tour with Bill as a group or you are on your own.

 

EVENING

Continued touring of Taromina with group or on you own. Stay in Taromina.

 

FRIDAY, MAY 21ST, DAY EIGHT

 

MORNING

Drive south to Siracusa. Targeted Hotel is Palazza Giaraca.

 

LUNCH

My suggestion for group or you are on your own.

 

AFTERNOON

Familiarization tour with Siracusa and some of the sights with Bill as guide.

 

SUPPER

 Tour with Bill as a group or you are on your own.

 

EVENING

Continued touring of Siracusa with group or on you own. Stay in Siracusa.

 

SATURDAY, MAY 22ND, DAY NINE

 

MORNING

Visit the Saturday morning market. Continue visiting the sights of Sicracusa.

 

LUNCH.

My suggestion or dine on your own.

 

AFTERNOON

Leave for Cefalu. We arrive at Cefalu the epitome of picturesque grandeur. Cefalu has a beach, winding narrow medieval streets, and delightful restaurants overlooking the rocky coast. All under the ever present gaze of the Norman Arab Byzantine Cathedral, one of the great churches of southern Europe. Targeted Hotel is Riva Del Sole.

Dine with group on your own.

 

SUNDAY, MAY 23RD, DAY TEN

 

MORNING

Tour Cefalu

LUNCH

Dine with group or on your own.

 

AFTERNOON

Late in afternoon travel over to Palermo

Dine with group or on own.

 

EVENING

Continued touring of Palermo with group or on you own.
