Here's a chance to visit India right in your own backyard at Gerrard East near Coxwell. The day we are going is a special day marking the Punjabi New Year and it is call Baisakhi. It is celebrated with traditional music and dance on the street. It is also the day Sikhs from around the world celebrate the founding of their religion. I will make comment on this celebration and tell you some myths from India related to objects you will see in the market as well an explaining some of the exotic fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices.
The cuisine you can experience here is from all over India. You'll taste south and north Indian food. Food from Sri Lankan or Mughlai cuisine that can please both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Traditional items like chaat, bhelpuri along with mouth-watering sweets and savories.
If you can't find South Asian spice, herb, lentil or cereal in Little India chances are, you may not find them anywhere else. The grocery stores import high quality tropical fruits and vegetables from around the world. These items cost less then you will find anywhere else in the GTA.
You'll experience have explained and have the opportunity to buy traditional costumes, trendy and contemporary fashions, pure silk fabrics in colours and varieties of fashion to satisfy anybody. The wedding outfits are especially spectacular in their colours. Other stores offer exquisite 22K gold, platinum and silver Jewellery, studded with diamonds and other precious stones. A good variety of imitation Jewellery is also available. Little India is a treasure trove for traditional musical instruments, handicrafts, religious books and other cultural merchandise. This is a great place if you want a unique gift or home décor items.
