HISTORIC STONE GARDEN
This cemetery was founded in 1876 and has a fascinating history. It is the burial place of some of Canada's most famous people;Mackenzie
King, Foster Hewitt and Charlie Conacher are just a few. Many who are not famous are also buried here such as the first Canadian
soldier killed in WWI, the victims of the Noronic disaster and some 100,000 others each with a story of their own. The park-like
grounds have a wide variety of trees shrubs and flowers. Some are unique like the Cucumber Tree or famous like the Maple Tree
next to the man who wrote the song the Maple Leaf forever. The gravestones tell what society was like in the past. Celtic
crosses, Mausoleums with columns and Corinthian capitals, memorials, ethnic monuments with symbols of various cultures like
Chinese, Latvian, and Ukrainian. Tour last two hours and begins at the gates to the Cemetery two and half blocks north of
Yonge and St. Clair at 10 a.m. Your tour guide is Bill Genova historian, tour guide and storyteller. Tour cost $30 and last
